About this event

Proposals submitted to the National Science Foundation are evaluated on both intellectual merit and broader impacts (BI) - the proposed research's potential to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes. BI activities show the relevance of the research to the public—and increasingly determine which of multiple excellent proposals get funded.

BI 101, co-hosted by the University of Idaho, Washington State University, and Idaho EPSCoR, is presented by Dr. Jory Weintraub, faculty member at Duke University and a trainer for the NSF-funded program, Advancing Research Impact in Society.

In this four-hour workshop, participants will develop strategies to design, implement, and evaluate BI activities. Particpants will also be guided through the process of aligning their BI activities with their research activities and professional/personal interests to develop a "lifelong" BI identity.

This event is co-hosted by the University of Idaho, IDaho EPSCoR, and Washington State University.
